    Fast Fat Chick

You all might be asking what all that plumbing is in the back of the bus? Well, this 'small' combo makes shure this Fat Chick reaches the end of the 1/4 mile in less than 13 seconds.
This powerplant puts down a capacity of 2387cc and combined to a turbo gives it something in the region of 400 bhp. With this healthy package, this bus is the fastest street legal VW Van in the UK and was build by VW Speedshop in Manchester. I think it's a blast to drive.
More of this bay in the new Volksworld...

    The Best Booze

Is there a better way to end a day of work than to get some of the best Bacardi Añejo mixed with some ice and coke?
    I shurely don't think so...
Life can be beautifull with just some small things...

    Porsche Day

Today, it was a Porsche day so Dimi and I placed the 356-engine back in the car after a break of almost 10 years.

Engine wasn't started yet as some minor details needed to be sorted out.

Next week the start-up and some testdriving ;-)...

    Dropped Fat Chick

Since Ollies 78' Doka Fat Chick is in the worx for a bit of ride-height adjustment, this bus is looking better every minute.

The adjusters are welded in and the dropped spindles from Airwkld are fitted. Now this ride is ready to be smacked to to ground. The drop will be limited due to the fact that the frontbeam isn't narrowed and some 16 inch Porsche rims are planned. The Porsche wheels will be fitted using adaptors to make life a little easiers...
Front view of the new ride height. As Ollie plans to use his Chick for work also, the bus will be left a little higher than seen here...

    Erco'd

Erco's are very nice wheels especially the zero offset-6 inch combo. They look good on any earlly wide 5 VW, but in my opinion they look best on our beloved Notchback. Just to make my point I've stollen these two very nice examples from other blogs or sites...
The first one is Lauffers turbo'ed 1500S running 10s on the 1/4 mile. (Got the pic from Jelle, he found it on luftkraft.ch)

The second one is another 1500S belonging to the owner of Speed Shop in France and husband of fast lady I-girl. Actually they bought the Notch some time ago from Type 3 pervert Ffred. (this pic has been stolen from the Street & Strip blog)

Hope I did make my statement and proved my right to all of you...

Ollie's bus in for the works...

Ollie's bus came in for the works today.
The works include some welding, fitting Porsche 16" wheels and a little change in ride hide after all the timle being around as a highrider. Dropping will be done by fitting some dropped spindles and welding adjuster in the frontbeam. I can't wait to see the
    worx finished...

    New Exhaust

Messies new exhaust got mounted this weekend but it needed some work to get it fit right. After some cutting and welding the exhaust met my standard.
The rearend now has a nice Cal Look finish to it...
Maybe some more changes will be made to this ride to go to the First European Bug-In which I probably will have to miss due to another project which is allready on its way... (DVF'ers will certainly know were I'm talking about...)

    Frenchys Site

There's a lot of talking on diferent blog about Frenchy Dehoux site these days.

I've also been reading the site and checking out the pictures which give some very fine stories an build-ups of Frenchys rides.

One that really caught my attention is the 54 California Look Oval.

As Frenchy has been building Lookers from the early seventies, he sure knows how to build them the right way and that's exactly what he has done with this Oval.

The car looks spot on from every angle and did you notice the original FAT-performance T-bars?

And what do you think about the engine bay? Detailled all the way and finished of with some Zolotone paint on the firewall and under the rear engine lid.

A truly nice example how a California Look VW should look like...

    Project El Picaro

Today, we all had a free day over here in Belgium so after a small visit to Messie, I continued the worx in Mi Taller. No welding and grinding today as to much noise would upset the neighbours so I started the mighty task of cleaning up the chassis so it is ready for the sandblaster.

This picture above shows the chassis before the worx got started.

This shot shows the chassis with most of the sound-deadening removed. Nice to see the floorpans don't need any welding. Guess it pays of in the long term of using a pretty young Mexican build bug as the base for my late looker.

While working on he chassis, it exposed some Mexican Buid only features like this nice stamp right above the place where the chassisnumber is located. Looks like those crazy Mexicans are proud of the things they build.

Another Mexican Build only feature are these 4 big holes in the floorpans eachone covered with a glued in cover. What also is typical is the floorpan painted in bodycolor. I guess the body was put on the chassis prior being painted to save costs of extra black paint to cover the chassis.

Next thing to do on the chassis is strip down the other side and weld in the Mid Gearbox Mount...

    Inspiration

I still love the classic lines of the 'less is more'-look of these Cal Look rides and this one realy stands out from the crowd in my opinion.

Some might recongise it other won't but this fine 66 is Darrell Bomgaars ultimate looker. It looks just perfect from every angle and the necessary power is there too delivered by the 2165 cc. It shure does give me inspiration for my freshly acquired 65...

Here's a picture of the interior of the perfect Looker. All the right bits seem to be there... For a full feature on this perfect ride, you'd better lay your hands on the April 2005 Ultra VW issue.

Took the pictures fom Goodies blog some time ago...
